一天，有个赶考的秀才从米芾的家乡路过。米芾听说他的字写得很好，就去求教。秀才说：“要我教你，就得用我的纸才行。我的纸五两纹银一张。”米芾听后，吓得目瞪口呆。

秀才又说：“不买我的纸就算了。”

米芾急了，忙说：“我找钱去。”母亲经不住米芾的苦苦哀求，只好把唯一的首饰当了五两纹银。秀才接过银子，把一张纸给了米芾，并嘱咐他要用心写字。

这只不过是一张普通的纸，但米芾不敢轻易下笔，反复认真琢磨字帖。他用手指在书桌上画着，想着每个字的间架结构和笔锋，渐渐入了迷。

半天过后，秀才找到米芾问：“怎么不写呢?”

米芾一惊，笔掉在地上，说：“纸太贵，怕废了纸。”

秀才笑到：“你琢磨了这么半天，写个字让我看看。”

米芾写了个“永”字，几乎和字帖上的字一样，可又好像不一样，真是漂亮了。

贼人是很聪明，至少比曾先生要聪明，但是他只能成为贼：“近代最有大本夫源的人。”

“勤能补拙是良训，一分辛苦一分才。”那贼的记忆力真好，听过几遍的文章都能背下来，而且很勇敢，见别人不睡觉居然可以跳出来“大怒”，教训曾先生之后，还要背书，扬长而去。但是遗憾的是，他名不经传，曾先生后来启用了一大批人才，按说这位贼人与曾先生有一面之交，大可去施展一二，可惜，他的天赋没有加上勤奋，变得不知所终。

今天牧羊人很开心，因为他早就看上了不远处悦来客栈的狼老板娘，尤其青睐她火红色的煽动性的性感嘴唇，他迷她已经很久，只是流浪的人没有机会，而今天是很巧合的路过。

始料不及的是，牧羊人钻进狼老板娘的客栈没多久，草原上来了大风沙，牧羊犬凭着警觉的鼻子最先嗅到了危险，撒开爪子就跑，那一群小肥羊摇晃着身子都跟在后面，一起到了悦来客栈，安全地躲过了风沙。

狼老板娘一向自称为羊，她说她的善良和羊一样，她说她从不吃肉，和羊一样吃的是青草，流的是羊奶，她说她的悦来客栈纯粹为过往的牧羊人服务准备的，这里安全温暖，因为她一直以代言羊自居。

在和牧羊人几番云雨后，牧羊人终于睡得如烂泥。

“牧羊犬，你违反了《牧羊法》，《未成年羊保护法》，《牧羊犬法》，虽然这些法律都没有明文规定你跑在前头是违法的，但本羊姑娘类推你违法了。根据偏重立法精神原则，虽不能依据具体的法律条文，显然你也不能对本狼提出抗辩”。
